Birds of Steel Videos

361 posts in this topic

I'd like to start a thread as a holding place for those of us who are making Birds of Steel videos. I thought some might appreciate the art and the drama of games. Others might want to watch to see different flight styles or tactics. My own videos are captured by holding an iPad in front of the tv screen to record, then editing the various parts in iMovie. I'll start and add a couple posts below.

My newest video. This was recorded during a Mission builder off-line game where I flew bomber defense for Japan. I used custom settings, with everything set to sim difficulty except that I leave the HUD on for speed and altitude, and turned off blackouts. Enemy planes are unmarked.

Good video Maqui, welcome to the club of videos.  Did you make a YouTube account to show the world?

This one is my favorite. I have been reading and rereading In Pursuit, by Kylander, to learn how to deal with an initial merge. This game was a Mission Builder:Head to Head mission, with only me and one enemy. I was practicing my tactics and dogfighting. The enemy is set on normal ability.

A recent mission builder:head to head battle offline, with me flying against two enemy fighters set to normal skill level. I left enemy planes unmarked to practice tracking them. Some horrible shooting here on my part, and I got lucky in the end.

This one features a battle with my good friend Pops in an online custom versus battle. I had been working on my bounce attack, and met with a little success.

Oh yeah, I remember that match, practicing my landings with the fast Russian planes. And getting blown out of the sky, LOL.

Another one I found on my computer.  Again, a mission where I was practicing my gunnery skills in Mission Builder, this time 1v2 against standard skill AI, but with me flying my 109.

Repost the videos you have made of the game into this thread Pops. It's better to have one tidy thread compiling everyones work.

Oh man, that is going to be some work on my part, but I'll do my best.  Last I check I had 18 videos of BoS alone.  I'll post the ones that at least I did something other than just fly around.  Ok, let's see..................................................................................

Birds of Steel Season 1 - Episode 1

My first attempt at uploading a video for YouTube. I am not by all means an expert ace pilot, or YouTuber. Was matched up against Robotic Pope, a friend of mine on xbox.

BoS Season 1 - Episode 4 (Preddy want to be - 2)

My friend UnsafestRook7 joined me today for a few games. (We were on his settings which are close to my custom settings.)
This was a Bomber Escort Mission, I'm beginning to enjoy this type of match.  I'll be able to fine tune these videos in the future, (new ones) when I have help from my son. UnsafestRook7 I'm finding out is quite the bomber pilot, not necessarily in this match, but others.

BoS Season 1 - Episode 9 (Big Week - Tuesday, February 22)

Continuation of "Big Week", the Allied Bombing Offensive that took place in February of 1944.

Managed to finally shoot the enemy down, and I believe damaging another. Epic dogfight with another ME-109 during the later part of the game.

BoS - Season 1 - Episode 12 (Big Week - Friday, February 25)

Continuation of "Big Week", the Allied Bombing Offensive that took place in February of 1944. Last day of Big Week.  I managed damage one enemy before getting shot down, and while scanning my teammates waiting to respawn, (I didn't notice that he had joined the game,) saw that my friend CSA Cryptic had join. Then the rest was history. lol  There was a lot of aerobatic flying with friendly and enemy planes coming oh so close to having a collision at one time or another.

More to come, I'll need time to shiff through them.

BoS Season 1 - Episode 6 (Bird just itchy to fly)

After finally setting up the capture device, went online to see if I could recreate "Big Week" using the Mission Builder.  But low and behold two friends of mine, CSA Cryptic and Robotic Pope included me in a "glitch" map bomber defense match.  In my haste, I choose to defend the bomber stream, while my teammate Cryptic and Pope fought it out in the "nosebleed section."  Couldn't dogfight worth beans tonight, but manage to shoot down some bombers.  Fun was had by all.  (Wonder where was Pedro?)

BoS Season 1 - Episode 10 (Big Week - Wednesday, February

Continuation of "Big Week", the Allied Bombing Offensive that took place in February of 1944. On this date when the B24's from 15th Bomber Group flew to Steyr, Austria, I read that they had no or minimal fighter escort.  I tried to depict this in this video.  This is what happens when you go chasing, takes you away what you're suppose to be doing. (Reason why my engine gave out was I was having an episode with fumble thumbs on my controller.)

BoS Season 1 - Episode 5 (getting my you know what handed to me)

UnsafestRook7 brings out the heavies, but I managed to shoot him down once through the smoke. I was aimlessly flying around at some point, not knowing what to do. This will be my last video for about 3 weeks.  Thanks for watching my futile attempt of posting videos on YouTube. It's a learning experience, fun, but I wish I had more time.

BoS Season 1 - Episode 13 - (JV44 - JG7)

CSA Cryptic and I continued to battle, but this time on the Axis side.  Trying to depict in these upcoming videos are Adolph Galland's JV44 ME-262 and Walther Nowotny's JG7 squadrons. Found it difficult to adjust to the jets speed, coming off from regular prop planes in the session prior.  Was acting as best as possible as wing man for Cryptic during the 6:30 mark, after he buzzed me on my right.  But we had fun anyway.

BoS Season 1 - Episode 15 (Britain Bomber Cover/Escort)

Getting me eyes to adjust to the tv screen I decided to create some matches.  At the 2:20 mark was dueling with my arch enemy Pedro, but decided to leave him to my squadrom mates so as I could go do the job at hand.  Managed to damage one and give chase.  I've always enjoyed the Bomber Escort missions, so here's one.

BoS Season 1 - Episode 18 (Wall vs Schreiber)

Tried to recreate the reconnaissance Mosquito and the ME-262, first encounter of the jet. Birds of Steel doesn't allow 1 bomber in the game, so I said, if I were to shoot down one Mosquito before Mission Failed, I actually won, so to speak.  I captured more of the match, and towards the end, plowed into the ground for some unknown reason. (My guess is I ran out of fuel.)  Still get how fast these planes are, always overshooting.

Hello all, I used to know how to embed videos and post photos onto this forum, I tried the suggestions that some of you posted on my video post, but no luck. I am on a newer computer running Windows 8, maybe somehow my computer is the problem. The web page does freeze when I try to access the image tab in the reply section, also when I use the Attach Files option, after it uploads from my computer all I get is an error message on the reply page. I also try embedding the video from my Sky Drive page, no luck, just able to post link to video  https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=a4b5012a453a36f9&id=A4B5012A453A36F9%213254&sff=1&authkey=!AALOUWMWxBafivo

My latest video.  This came from an off-line Mission Builder game in which I had to down attacking bombers.  The game is set in Ruhr, with custom settings (mostly sim), no marked enemies, and limited ammo and fuel.

This one is more of a highlight reel than a self-contained story.  But this is my first-person view of a coop mission that I played with Pops a week or so ago, in which we flew BF109s in a bomber attack mission.  There was some serious mayhem in the game, as we eventually brought down all of the bombers and their cover, though I do believe that we failed to bring down enough bombers in the allotted time.  And I left in my collisions with the bombers as well, just for the sake of drama.  Also note that part of the way through the video, the game failed to record my Cannons and MG... you can see the results of my shooting, but no cannon fire through the cockpit. [That's RIGHT!  PS3 players got screen captures, but XBox360 players got MIND BULLETS!!] We played the game in Custom mode (mostly Sim settings with marked enemies and HUD), which made sorting our friendly from enemy a lot simpler.

Very nice video, love the music, is that your cd or is it in the game?

Perhaps a stupid question but can PS3 users ever fly with Xbox folks? I thought I read somewhere on this forum that it can't be done, but not sure.

That music is from another video game.  The developers of that game gave away the music, and for some reason, it isn't caught as copyrighted by YouTube, so I use it from time to time.  As far as I know there is no way that PS3 and Xbox users can play together.  Sad, really.  Just sad.
